INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY IN SUBOTICA

SUBOTICA, 12TH AUGUST 2011

 

On the 12th of August Subotica as well as the rest of the world celebrated International Youth Day. The event was held in the park of Ferenc Rajhl and it was the third time of marking this day in the city of Subotica.

This year’s slogan was “Volunteer!”. The year 2011 has been designated  as the “European Year of volunteering” by the European Union. The main message which this slogan was sending to the young people was encouragement to join non-governmental organizations for voluntary activities and through them contribute to the future development of their society.

The initiators and main organizers of Youth Day celebration this year were AIESEC Subotica, HERA association, Local Democracy Agency Subotica, Stav+plus association, Youth Forum of Vojvodina VIFO. Other participants were PhotoWalkers photo club, Zumba fitness, ECO-friends Subotica, Light Fire jugglers team.

REGIONAL PARTNERSHIPS FOR INTERCULTURAL EXCHANGE - Project public promotion and films screening in Subotica

 

Main city square and the Art Cinema:  9th May 2011:

 

In co-operation with the local government LED Office, local CSO-s and youth groups in Subotica, Local Democracy Agency, the project partner, organized a series of public events in the main city square to exhibit the project publications and disseminate them to the widest public in the local community. Local CSO-s involved in the project implementation, including the Roma Education Centre, Women’s association, Croat cultural centre, Hungarian youth club, Youth volunteers, contributed with the promotion stands and publications being disseminated to the citizens. This was also the occasion to mark the Days of Europe and present the co-operation and local partnerships established within this specific project and also to promote the achievements within cross-border co-operation programmes.

Both Mr. Sasha Vucinic, mayor of Subotica and Mr. Slavko Parac, Spokesman of the city assembly were present and addressed the citizens and the local media.

REGIONAL PARTNERSHIPS FOR INTERCULTURAL EXCHANGE - project presented at the round table and press conference in Subotica, City Hall

 

Local presentation of the project was held in the City Hall Subotica in presence of some thirty five representatives of local CSO-s and local media. Among the invitees were the organizations included in the Subotica Intercultural Guide, published previously. Present also were the local government departments (LED office, Mayor’s office, department for education and culture).

In her introductory notes, Ms. Erika Kudlik, City Councilor for international/regional co-operation spoke about the activities taking place over the past couple of years in support to promote Subotica as the intercultural city – both within the established network of the European Intercultural Cities and through the regional co-operation project Regional Partnerships for Intercultural Exchange. A number of local projects have been successfully implemented in collaboration with CSO-s, and a number of good practices/mechanisms launched in support to establishing genuine intercultural understanding and respect for diversity. Three languages in official use, examples of bilingual education, hosting four national councils of national communities, large number of ethnically mixed marriages are some of the evidence of the efforts invested by the local government.
